Chanel Mat Lumiere - Review!

After a few weeks of umming and ahhing about whether to invest in yet another foundation so soon after buying Mac's Studio Sculpt foundation (not a fan btw) and another YSL Perfect Touch, I finally snapped this baby up!

I'm so glad I did I love this foundation, I mean REALLY love it! I thought Perfect Touch was my ideal foundation but this wins by miles!

I know everyone raves about it's sister foundation, Pro Lumiere but I found this works better for me, I have quite oily skin and this is the only foundation I've found that really controls that.

Yes, it is a matte formulation foundation which I usually steer clear of because most give a mask like effect on your skin which looks completely unnatural, not the look I'm going for! But this is amazing, it completely controls my shine while at the same time making my skin look radiant and natural!

It contains Silica powder which acts as a blotting agent and helps keep oily skin under control. It's really long lasting and I've not needed to touch up throughout the day.

The colour I chose in number 2, Clair and it's a perfect match, a little bit darker than my real skin colour but not too dark to give the old neck and face mismatch.

Over the past week I've tried various methods of application and I can't believe I'm saying this but I think fingers all the way, it blends so easily! When I've put it all over I then buff lightly with my Mac 183, this gives an amazingly natural and flawless finish.

I'm constantly on the hunt for the perfect foundation and this ticks all the right boxes for me.

  • great colour
  • easy to apply
  • non cakey
  • natural radiant finish
  • mattifying
  • long lasting
  • medium buildable coverage
The only NEGATIVE I have about this foundation is that it seems to just refuse to blend on my nose and slides right off!I don't know if thats the Chanel or my crazily oily nose!

If you have similar skin to me (slightly oily to normal), then this is a great base to have! This is edging on HG territory for me, love it!

Has anyone else tried it? What do you think? How does it compare to Pro Lumiere?

Sounds great for my skin type as well. I take it that it didn't cause any breakouts. That is always my #1 worry. I just may have to try this! Thanks for the review!

I reviewed the chanel foundations on my blog and although i bought pro lumiere, Matt was still the winner for me .. i used a sample that lasted a week or more ... will definitely be purchasing Matt next, the more i use Pro the more i realise it just doesn't live up the standards of the Matt! x

Ahh I love Mat Lumiere too! Thats so weird though, EXACTLY the same thing happens on my nose too hah! I can never get it to blend properly at all there, so odd. Anyway, love your blog!! xxx

Quick question - what was the color of your YSL Perfect Touch foundation? Mine is No.4 (Sand) and I'm looking for the right counterpart in Chanel Mat Lumiere colors.. :)

I was interested in reading a review of this.. I ahve tried matt foundations before (Dior Forver skin) and they can tend to look a bit flat.
The nose issue, I get that with MAC sculp foundation and as a result I don't ever use it- well apart from the fact that this foundation is so thick and non-blendy anywhere on the face really- yikes!!!

This sounds so tempting. My skin is super oily so I'm I'm always up for the next miracle product to fix it!
BTW, I just tried NARS Sheer Glow and had exactly the same problem with nose blending! I must be the only person who didn't get on with it.... :(
I think I will borrow the trick of taking in my own pot to get a sample because I usually get fobbed off too. Oh, the joys of being ridiculously pale....

My very good friend works at the chanel counter, and told me the best way to get even coverage all over is to apply with a brush, this help the foundation sit on top of ur skin instead of settling or the nose problems u guys have been describing. I just hope this makeup doesnt cause break outs. I used to b a bare minerals girl and will still use that, but i need better coverage and something that will not sweat off or smudge off, sum ppl say bare minerals doesnt come off, but, i beg to differ, every time i get off my cell phone its caked with the minerals. Anyway, hope to c more reviews

im so so at the end of my tether trying to find a foundation that gives me the finish that i used to get when my skin was normal/dry.

I could get a flawless base for hours before my skin turned crazy oil slick central. This review was a while ago have you found anything better recently? xx
