Permanent hair removal - My journey using the Boots I-Pulse Skin Smooth

Hands up those of you that are fed up with endless shaving or forking out a load of money every month on waxing? I know I am so when I was asked if I wanted to test out a permanent hair removal system I jumped at the chance.

It arrived several weeks ago and I'm going to be honest with you I was too scared to even open the box let alone give it a go.

The years of painful hair removal have clearly left me terrified. Epilation is a legal form of torture quite frankly. I had a machine, used it once and binned it, how women can do that every week is beyond me and waxing isn't much better either.

Although laser technology hair removal has been available in salons for quite some time it does come at a price. I know some women who have paid thousands to be permanently de-fuzzed and that's great if you can afford it but I certainly can't so over the next 6 weeks I'll be testing Boot's budget friendly hair removal system from the comfort of my home.

Two days ago I mustered the courage to remove the contraption from it's vanity case, on first impressions it doesn't look like a torture device, no tweezers or blades in sight which puts me at ease instantly.

Before I embark on my permanent hair removal journey a patch test must be done to see how my skin reacts to the intense pulsed light (IPL) technology. I shave a patch of hair on my arm and apply the cooled Smooth Skin Activator gel liberally on the area.

The machine is plugged in and on standby, I select my skin tone setting, fair and press ready. After thirty seconds or so it's all good to go but I just can't do it, ah it's going to hurt? burn me even?

I know the head of the machine doesn't look scary but lasers shooting into my skin does not sound very appealing and the unknown terrifies me. My friend has enough of me being a wimp and picks up the head places it on my skin until it lights up and zaps.

'Is that it?? I didn't even feel it? Did you do it properly?', I ask. So she does it again and to my amazement I feel almost nothing, if anything the tiniest warm prick and that's it.

So I'm left thinking this machine is almost too good to be true, not only does it get rid of my hair forever but it is virtually pain free. The only drawbacks I have with the Smooth Skin system is the size of the laser head, it is going to literally take FOREVER to do my whole leg let alone two of them and the fact that you can't fake tan whilst using it.

It's a tough decision, be hair free and pale or hairy and bronzed?

Being pale for just over a month is a small price to pay for never having to shave again so tomorrow I start my 6 week hair removal quest. I will be doing one session on my legs, underarms and face every week and will keep you updated every Friday on the results.

Has anyone ever else tried laser hair removal or thought about it??

I've been looking into these actually! I epilate at the moment and it absolutely burns! Haha! But it's alot quicker than this and beauty is pain! This would take me forever and i'd get bored too quickly i think!

Wow, that is some undertaking but at least you are doing it just before summer so you should be finished just in time for when you need to get into bikinis and dresses. I would hate to go without fake tan for that amount of time but for the end result, it would be worth it. The thought of never having to shave or wax ever again is very enticing though! Looking forward to seeing how you get on! x

I've been having it done at a "laser spa" on my upper legs and bikini line.
I go for one semi-painful treatment every six weeks, six treatments altogether.

I have two more treatments to go, one tomorrow actually, and I have to say, I am quite happy with the results. Not ALL the hair is gone, but it's a really significant reduction.

Good luck with your machine!

Does the hair regrow after the 6 weeks treatment? Does the hair regrow thinker and coarse like when you shave?

Let us know how it turns out! Although there are lots of products that promises good results still there are issues of hair coming back. The thought of never having to shave ever again is pretty good for everybody. I hope it would be a better method compared to laser hair removal

I'm happy to hear about this machine. But does it helps to remove permanently the unwanted hair from their body like LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

I would advise you all to DO NOT BUY THE I-PULSE MACHINE FROM BOOTS. I'm really disappointed with everything about this machine. First of all the 12 weeks effectiveness it's unreal. It might be real for hairless woman but for thick hair it probably takes way longer. My point is: The 10.000 flashes lasted only 5 months, I don't know how some people managed to use for one year without replacement, I have to say I was really surprised when the bulb was finished. I was doing my bikini line, underarm, half legs and upper lip it was bad enough that it lasted so little, but my nightmare started when I tried to get the replacement handset that costs more than half price of the whole machine or just the bulb that is also very expensive a 100 pounds. In store they've got no information about it, and they also gave me 3 weeks to get replaced wich means I would have to stop the treatment for 3 weeks. Before you buy it any of this machines reserch a lot ( not only boots website ).Is just a piece of advice from someone that really needs hair removal and had a bad experience after spending more than 300 pounds in one machine that doesn't really do what it says.I left to my fiance who speaks English as a first language to deal with them over the phone because the firts time I called them the guy at the store was laughing at me, I took as he was probably laughing at my accent. But it didn't bother me as much as I have to wait for 6 weeks, they actualy changed from 3 weeks to 6 now and I'm getting married in 8 weeks. How nice is that? Thanks and good luck with you choices girls, hope it works better than worked for me.

These hair removers are great, but they are not permanent, they usually last up to 18months before hair grows back. The silkn brand of laser hair removers are also wroth having a look at.

I've done laser hair removal, and though it does not remove the hair permanently, like Jackie said, it does great reduce it. I would totally do it for my legs. Shaving can be such a pain!

I've been looking for a way to remove some unwanted hair and i've been relying on waxing so far which is very painful. Now that its winter i'm looking for a more permanent alternative. I know it could be more painful but i just want to get it over with.

Hopefully this one works for you. There are so many at home hair removal systems on the market, it's so hard to choose which one to go with so thanks for the review! I've actually never heard of the Boots I-Pulse.

How much does this unit costs? And does this really works like those in the parlor? If yes, this is the good item for me for I'm a busy mom with three kids.
