Mac - A Tartan Tale

Despite the title there is a distinct lack of tartan in my mini haul mainly due to the fact that I've finally learnt not to be conned by the 'pretty' packaging and gimmicky LE products. At last!!!

I skipped the palettes, sets and brushes as after four years of collecting them I know they barely get touched, they may look good but they sit unloved.

If your just venturing into make-up or interested in Mac the Christmas sets are a nice way to get a taste of the brand and I'm sure the macaholic in me last year would have snapped some up.

My bank balance is thanking me already!

However I did pick up two things from A Tartan Tale, Novembers Scottish inspired collection which came out here yesterday.

Did I really need another brown eyeliner? No but did I buy one? Oh yes!

Lord It Up is a deep brown with a tinge of bronze and gold sparkle, lovely really lovely but it's not the colour that makes me love this, it's the formula.

As a Pearlglide Intense it's super pigmented, doesn't budge and most of all is amazingly soft, without a doubt the creamiest formula I've ever tried, fabulous!

I am now trying hard to resist the other shades which just scream Christmas!

My love of peach is no secret and naturally My Highland Honey, a soft pale peach with a satin finish had to be mine.

I find peach tones more wearable on my skintone, warmer and more subtle than pinks when applied.

If you love lipsticks such as NYX India, Jemma Kidd Wendy, Eve Pearl Nude Beach and NYX Orange Soda then you will love this, it's the powder form.

Next to Orange Soda it's almost identical in shade.

The other two products I purchased are nothing exciting or from the collection, ones a back up and the other something I wanted to try.

Have you hauled your TT yet? What did you get? Or were you being good this month?

I was totally underwhelmed by this collection, which was a shame as I'm just starting to get into MAC products.

I'd really hoped that the Christmas goodies would be amazing but I found all the tartan and gold a bit garish to be honest. It put me off the brush sets which is really what I'd been waiting for. That probably sounds silly because obviously the colour of the metal on the brush has no bearing on how well it does the job - I'm just a bit fickle and I like things to look good too.

@Beth - yeh it wasn't the best christmas collection I didn't think the colours screamed holiday apart from the eyeliners!

Me too, it is important if you spend that much, last collections were better! xx

nothing really caught my eye in this collections, but Highland Honey looks lovely. The eyeliner looks like a slightly darker version of teddy which is one of my fave mac eyeliners :) x

I'm not crazy about this collection but I did pick up a pearlglide liner, which I LOVE. I got Black Line but now I want them ALL. They are the best pencil liners I have ever used. I thought it would show off chunks of glitter, but it didn't. Extremely smooth and long wearing. I want The Faerie Glen, I have to get that next time since I fancy nudes. The brushes and palettes I didn't care for at all but I probably will get the pigments when they release.

I got My Highland Honey and I love it! You don't even have to apply much b/c it's very pigmented. I also picked up Black line and now I want to get the rest of the liners! They really are the standout product of this collection. Thanks for the swatches!

hey lady, I picked up glamora castle eyeshadow - haven't seen any other colour like it from MAC - gorgeous soft grey with a blue hue ... oh, and one of the brush sets (a bad habit of mine) ... the glideliners were lovely but apparently not safe for the water line (which is where I mostly wear pencil eyeliner) so still thinking (obsessively, lol!) about them ... also thinking I might go back for courting lilac lippie ...

you can have a wee peep at my post here if you fancy x

I really love the eyeliner that you got such a lovely shade! I tend to just get item I like from mac, I'm not a big fan of their collection. But I might have a look at the eyeliner tho

The eye liner is probably the best thing about the collection! Absolutely love it - kind of reminds me of a Laura Mercier one?

Beautiful none-the-less :)

I think most brands' winter collections have been a little disappointing this year - I'm still debating on cut a caper l/s - it was pretty when swatched but I don't think it's particularly special.

I missed out completely on Venomous Villains, so I am 'justifying' it with my huge purchase of Tartan Tale. All 6 eyeshadows, and 2 eyeshadow palettes: Reelers & Rockers and Twists Of Tartan.

Just found your blog and I absolutley love it. I went bak in the archive and found a post you did about Lily Lolo mineral makeup but i couldnt find a follow up on what you thougt about them. Since I am thinking aboug getting a blush it would be nice to hear what you think about them.

Holly said...

@Ana - :0 thanks!! I did like Lily Lolo as a brand but personally found their blushers hard to work with, a pressed colour is easier I think! Thier foundations are great though :) xx
