The knotted plait

Every time I get my hair done I always leave the hairdressers with that beautiful but painfully boring 'salon done' hair. You know, the big, bouncy, shiny style that you could never in a million years recreate at home.

After years of this and probably due to the fact that I have to sit in those swivel chairs every seven or so weeks, I'm now deadly against the high maintenance blow dry. It's gorgeous but slightly dull, almost too perfect in a way!

So today I asked for something different. Poker straight wasn't an option, neither were curls so my stylist came up with this and I love it, hence the random and somewhat impromptu post.

I've been going to this stylist for the past six months and for the first time in a long time I really feel that my hairdresser gets me and what I want from my hair. As well as working in a salon she also works for GHD on their creative team so always knows the latest looks and techniques.

The look she did on me was one she came up with over the weekend with GHD, a new kind of plait. It has no official name, but I'm going to call it the Knotted Plait, because if you look closely she actually tied/knotted parts of my hair in loops.

I wish I could share with you how she did this but I'm not entirely sure tbh, I will try to recreate it tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Alternatively, those of you with a flair for hair please share if you can work out how to do it from the pictures above :).

Ohh and doesn't my skin look nice if I don't say so myself, I have discovered a new foundation that I truly think is THE ONE, more on this soon.

Looks really lovely...although I don't think I could manage that myself...far too superior for my amateurish efforts! x

I'm useless with my hair, so probably would never be able to recreate this but it looks so lovely! I can imagine it being a great hairstyle to wear in summer too! and i agree, your skin does look amazing - very excited to see the post on the foundation! xx

Love this, so pretty!

The most styling I could ever do with my own hair is just to tie it up in a ponytail and maybe straighten my hair. That's it. How people are capable of doing that sort of thing is just...unfathomable to me.

Your hair looks amazing! I can kinda figure out where she's looped your hair into plaits, but I don't think I'd have the hand-eye coordination to do it haha!

If YOU think this is THE foundation, it must be! I can't wait to hear about it!!!

Also love the knotted plait. It looks so different from your usual plait. Too bad I couldn't do this myself! Hahaha!

Your hair looks gorgeous. I always leave the hairdressers with sleek but boring hair so it'd make my day if my hairdresser created something like this! x

I get so upset when they want to blow dry my hair after dying it! I just feel like they can be too rough when it comes to using that round brush and Id rather just have a rough dry! I will however now consider asking for something like this as its pretty and something that would look different!

Love it! I know what you mean - I could spend hours drying my hair and it always looks rubbish! I curl the ends now to create a bit of bounce.

Hi! I have just stumbled on your blog just now and really enjoyed reading it, especially the many lipstick reviews you have! I am currently looking for lighter shade lipstick that does not compromise my 'bloom'. And of course, those braids are amazing. I am working on a hair extension website, and you might want to be our beauty writer, soon? :) Here is a link to a website I started: www.hairlet.com/uk. Thanks!
