The Perfect Day to Night Shadow - Mac's Romp

It's not often I talk shadow on here, mainly due to the fact that I don't wear it much.  Mostly, my normal day to day eye consists of a neutral, champagne coloured paint pot/primer potion/cream shadow type thing (any will do) with a defined liner. A simple yet strong look.

Recently however, I've taken a softer approach to my makeup and ditched the flick. Alternatively, to give my eyes the subtle definition they still need, I've been turning to my Mac palette instead to line my lids.

Well, one shade from it to be precise.

Mac's Romp

In perfect condition, barely touched and nestled deep within one of my many neutral palettes lay Romp, a beautiful chocolate brown infused with a metallic gold sheen (NOT GLITTER). For years it had sat unused due to my phobia of darker shadows, but a few months ago something possessed me to dip my brush into the mid-tone bronze and I haven't looked back since.

As a Frost formula the consistency is ultra creamy, making it a dream to apply and more importantly to blend. Unusually for this finish though, Romp has a pretty strong colour payoff so little build up is needed.

Here's one swipe swatched below.

Slightly deeper in tone than the picture displays (thanks flash!), Romp is the PERFECT shade for creating a daytime appropriate soft, smokey eye as it's deep enough to make a difference but subtle enough not to stand out.

Super easy to wear, even for a shadowphobe like me!

Daytime Look using Romp

The 'look' above is all I've been doing for the past few months, it's so simple yet effective and involves just one brush and this one shadow.

Taking my beloved 217 blending brush, which btw, if you don't own already then you should, I apply a small amount of Romp along the lash line and gently blend upwards to create a soft but slightly smudgy line.

Using the same brush again, I then take some more under my eyes close to the bottom lash line to finish off this subtle, smokey look in a matter of seconds!

Evening Look using Romp

For a little more drama on nights out I've been using this metallic bronze (and my 217) again by simply building the colour up a little stronger.  Doing that, and taking it through my crease so that the definition is slightly higher up and more noticeable creates the perfect, effortless evening eye.

Although, I'm sure that Romp is not completely unique in it's colour, at the rate these nude palettes are being released how can it be really?  But what I am sure of though, is that this shade or others like it really are versatile and as I now know, easy to wear.

Like Romp? What's your favourite day to night shadow?

Hi Holly,

I love your blog. It's full of make-up and products that look gorgeous but that I daren't buy myself as I am so clueless at how to use them!

I write about my failing attempts at looking yummy whilst also being a mummy at Yummy Mummy? Really?

Feel free to pop over and laugh at my incompetence! :-)

Thats lovely I love MAC Patina eyeshadow and also the Tartan Tale Dashing Lassie pallete for daytime, my perfect neutral.

I also like to line my bottom lashes lightly with something funky like electric eel for a little pop of colour when I do a neutral eye xx
