Livening up the lip department

As much as I LOVE hues on the nuder side I've been wanting to brighten up my slightly (extremely!) bland lipstick collection for a while now.

I rarely liven things up in the lip department or any other department for that matter. So boring I know, but getting stuck in a makeup rut can be easy to do.

Anyhow, whilst browsing the cosmetics counters a couple of weeks ago I set eyes upon the perfect makeup shake up shade, Scarlett Ibis.

 I saw, I swatched, I spent.

Scarlett Ibis

Originally I'd planned on skipping the whole Marilyn Monroe for Mac collection. Online swatches I'd seen and promo images hadn't impressed me much, so I hadn't marked anything down as a 'must have' for me.

What had I been thinking?

If ever there was a better chance to inject some colour in to my collection then surely a movie star worthy, Marilyn red was a good place to start. No?

Apart from this, the only other Mac red I've ever owned and completely LOVED was Toxic Tale, a LE lippie that came out a while back. Unfortunately, I lost mine and have never found a crimson I've liked as much since.

Although not identical, Scarlett Ibis has a similar tone to it. When applied it's a vibrant yet traditional red, tinged with a slight twist of tango (orange), giving you screen siren lips in just one swipe!

Unlike most full coverage matte formula's, this shade doesn't suck every last bit of moisture from the lips, it has more of a natural matteness to it in both consistency and finish. LOVE!

Ohh and before I forget, I also made another cheeky purchase to go with my new found pin up pout. What kind of beauty blogger would I be if I didn't find a matching lip liner, right?

On recommendation from one of my favourite bloggers ever, Diana, I purchased my very first Chanel Lip Definer from their Rouge Allure Fall Collection in the colour Orange Intense. Built in lip brush, meltingly soft formula and stays put. Very impressed indeed.

Having been addicted to nudes for as long as I can remember, breaking old habits hasn't been easy but I am trying. The bolder you go, the braver you have to be!

What lipstick do you liven your lips up with?

It's beautiful! I really wanted the Charmed I'm Sure lipstick from that collection but by the time I had decided on it it was sold out.

Really suits you!!! I actually think it's better than your peachy nude- makes your eyes stand out. Great choice. I skipped the MM as red lipstick makes me look old I've decided :(

Holly, it really, really suits you! You should definitely dabble in more red lipsticks.

I think you'd also love MAC's Barcelona Red. It's kind of a muted, daytime red - so easy to wear and I haven't come across anyone it doesn't suit yet (My Mum's tried it, a couple of my blonde-haired friends). It's such an easy colour to wear.

Stunning lipstick, definitely get some more reds xx
